Common Questions

Are you a candidate for the All-on-4 dental implant procedure?

Most adults who are missing many teeth (or have several failing teeth) are potential candidates for All-on-4. It’s designed for people who want a fixed, non-removable smile and don’t want to keep struggling with loose dentures or patchwork dental work. The real answer depends on three things: your goals, the health of your mouth, and whether your jawbone can support implants safely.

You’re often a good candidate if you’re missing most teeth in an arch (or you know you’re heading that direction), your dentures feel unstable, or you’re tired of broken teeth and repeated repairs. Many people also qualify even if they’ve been told they have “bone loss,” because All-on-4 is angled to use the strongest bone that’s already there. In general, good gum health, decent oral hygiene, and stable overall health all work in your favor.

You may still be a candidate, but we’ll plan more carefully, if you smoke or vape, have uncontrolled diabetes, active gum infection, a weakened immune system, or a history of certain medications (like some bone-strengthening drugs) or head/neck radiation. Those factors don’t automatically disqualify you, but they can increase risk and change the safest approach. In some cases, we may recommend extra implants (All-on-6), a staged plan, or treating infection first before we move forward.

Can I really get teeth in one day?

In many cases, yes, you can walk out the same day with a fixed set of temporary teeth. This is often called “teeth in a day” or “same-day smile,” and it works because the implants are placed and a secure, non-removable temporary bridge is attached soon after. The key is stability: if the implants lock into your bone firmly enough at surgery, we can safely load them with a temporary set of teeth right away.

Not everyone is a same-day candidate. If the bone is too soft, there’s active infection, or the implants can’t achieve the stability we need, we may recommend a staged approach to protect long-term success. The goal is always the same: get you to a fixed smile as fast as possible without taking shortcuts that raise the risk of failure.

Also, “teeth in one day” means temporary teeth that look great and let you function while you heal, not the final zirconia bridge. Healing and integration typically take a few months, and then we design the final set for ideal fit, bite, and durability. At your consultation with a 3D scan, we’ll tell you clearly whether you’re a same-day candidate and what your exact timeline would be.

What care is recommended after implants?

After implant surgery, the goal is simple: protect the healing process while keeping everything clean. For the first few days, most patients do best with rest, ice, and a soft diet. Avoid smoking, vaping, alcohol, and strenuous exercise early on, because they can slow healing and increase complications. If you were given prescriptions (pain medicine, antibiotics, or an antimicrobial rinse), take them exactly as directed.

Oral hygiene is still important, but it should be gentle at first. We typically recommend brushing carefully around the surgical area, using any rinse we prescribe, and avoiding aggressive swishing or spitting for the first day. Don’t use straws early on. As tenderness improves, you’ll transition into a normal routine that keeps plaque off the gums and around the bridge, because implants can fail if the tissue becomes chronically inflamed.

Food choices matter during healing. Stick to softer foods at first and avoid anything hard, crunchy, or sticky that could put too much pressure on the implants or loosen a temporary bridge. Over the next several weeks, we’ll guide you on when to advance your diet safely. You’ll also have scheduled follow-up visits so we can check healing, adjust your bite if needed, and confirm everything is integrating the way it should.

Long term, implants need the same kind of maintenance as natural teeth—sometimes more. Daily brushing, flossing (or a water flosser), and cleaning under the bridge are essential, along with regular professional cleanings. Most patients also benefit from a night guard if they grind or clench. With consistent home care and routine checkups, implant bridges can stay comfortable, healthy, and stable for many years.
